Photo by Karolina Grabowska This gets missed often because it feels legitimate. It can feel like it makes sense to feel scared, but nothing happened. There is no reason to feel scared. And yet, you still do not feel calm hours later. That is the complexity of trauma. You can feel triggered by what the general population would consider a normal interaction. I know this first hand. I remember one day walking to my car when a man shouted as he left a store. I immediately felt unsafe and continued to feel unsafe as I got in the car and drove away. It had absolutely nothing to do with me. He was just mad and shouting out into the world, but I took it as my own safety was in danger. Not consciously. I did not consciously believe he would do anything to me, but my body remembered what happens when people are angry like that. Intuitively, I see it as energies that tell a story. The story is usually around a theme that was repeated often by someone close to you. Some common themes I have intuitively heard people had in their nervous system when their nervous system is activated a lot are:
These energy patterns often feel frantic or chaotic in the body. At the same time, I will feel confusion in my mind which indicates the confusion the person felt while experiencing the situation. There is panic in the body, but at the same time confusion as to why the person is doing what they are doing and the mind is trying to make sense of it. All of that stays in the mind and leads to a lot of head tension or issues like teeth grinding. This is not a simple issue to work on. It takes some time, but in my own experience as I diligently worked on them myself and have helped clients with releasing these energetic patterns their nervous system learns to feel safe and calm in more and more situations.
